Kazumi Kitahara

Not much is known of this stunner who made her debut for Toho's tv show, RYUSEI NINGEN ZON, known by english fans as ZONE FIGHTER (1973). She played one of three zone heroes, Zone Angel, clad in pink leggy tights, silver helmet with pink cape. Because of the rarity of subtitled copies, there is no official plot summary available for the series, or the characters, but thanks to simplicity in filmmaking (and marketing a show towards children,) the show is fairly easy to understand. Whenever she wasn't wearing her superhero outfit, she was always clad in some of the sexiest outfits ever to be called subtle. Whether it was a short skirt (one episode gave us a little glimpse of what she had underneath!,) or silk pajamas, she didn't need much to do to get young impressionable Japanese boys in unforgiveable pum pum shorts or older American fans in front of their television sets. One episode that stands in our minds is when Zone Angel's evil doppleganger replaced her to fulfill Baron Garoga's evil plans (she looked even sexier evil.) It is no wonder Godzilla, Gigan, and King Ghidora took time off the cinemas to appear in a few episodes of this series. If we were kaijus, we'd do the same as well! (Except if you're Megalon or Gabara, then you'd have no clout with Toho and would be forced to retire at a premature age againt your wishes without any pension plans or fanbase to back up your existence.) If you can get ZONE FIGHTER on DVD, do so! It is a mystery to us at Sci Fi Ninja Theater why Kitahara has not enjoyed a fulfilling career in films and TV, having enough qualifications to be a sex symbol of Japanese fantasy. Alas, it was not meant to be (even Tomoko Ai had a somewhat sizeable film career.) Anyway, Kazumi Kitahara is our June Babe of the Month. If we had our way, there would only be one thing we want: for Zone Angel to be subtitled!
